My Coaching Philosophy

Understanding why an athlete runs sets the foundation for how I can support and motivate them. I value getting to know each athlete and collaborating with them on training that is challenging, fun and fulfilling.

I believe in consistency, creativity and working hard while working smart.

I’m excited to lead the Vancouver morning workouts and jump in alongside my athletes whenever I can. Running with M2M has changed my life and my goal as a coach is to help create those meaningful experience for others.

Interview

  • Favourite post-workout treat or go-to place?

A Grounds Cinnamon Bun – undefeated after a long run at Big Aus.

  • Favourite running podcast, website, book, videos, or blog?

Ali on the Run. Her podcast introduced me to so many different athletes and was probably the biggest reason for why I became a fan of professional distance running. I’ve always loved her upbeat attitude and relationship focused approach. No one gets more out of their guests.

  • Favourite single race?

Great Trek. I lived on UBC campus for 5 years and Great Trek was the first official race I ever did. I have great memories there and despite the challenging course, I always feel like I’m running fast and free when I’m out there.

  • Favourite sporting moment? (that you experienced)

The greatest running moment I’ve had is taking that final left turn to the see the Boston Marathon finish line. I hope that I never forget feeling the sound and the energy that hit me as I came down the home stretch. Outside of running, my favorite moment was when the Swedish cheerleading team I was a part of finished our final performance – you’ll have to join me on a long run to get the details on that.

  • Favourite sporting moment? (any sport, athlete/team)

The day the Calgary flames win the cup again.

  • What got you into running?

I loved the clarity and calmness I got from running. Going for a run always left me feeling like a better version of myself. After being diagnosed with diabetes as a teenager, it also became a really helpful tool for managing my blood sugar and created a space for me to prove to myself that I wouldn’t be slowed down.

  • Favourite workout?

On the track, I’d go with kilometre repeats. On the road, I love the feeling of knocking off the kilometres of a long, steady marathon effort.

  • Favourite pre-race meal?

Not quite a “meal” but as someone with diabetes you will often see me taking down a juice box (usually apple or orange) before a workout to keep my blood sugars stable
