Itinerary

Each day will start with a guided run, through the remote and majestic landscapes around the city of Whitehorse. Afternoons will be free to explore and recover from the morning run. We have some great evening educational sessions planned to enhance the camp experience.
Arrival of participants to the Best Western Gold Rush Inn
easy run in town, post-travel.
An opportunity for camp participants to get to know each other and the camp leaders. Followed by a mandatory safety meeting with local expert Tyler de Jong.
Distance: 16-20k - elevation: 334m - loop. Run this historic route used during the gold rush and earlier by First Nations. The spectacular geology however is much older. Almost nine million years ago, a rush of basaltic lava spread over a pre-glacial landscape a few kilometres from what is now downtown Whitehorse. A ribbon of fast-moving turquoise water runs between the cliffs that remain. Miles Canyon was named, in 1883, for an American military general, but it’s had many names over the years. First Nations used nearby Canyon City as a fishing camp, and referred to the area as Kwanlin, meaning "running water through canyon." Gold Rush prospectors called it the Grand Canyon, and used it as the main thoroughfare when travelling North during the Gold Rush. At that time, waterway traffic was so heavy that the Northwest Mounted Police established an upriver outpost at Canyon City to check boats and ensure their safety travelling through. What couldn’t be carried over water was transported through the woods via tramway. Source: Travel Yukon

Once you’re at the top you’ll see 360° views of the surrounding snow capped mountains. The subsequent 1000m descent is down an epic single track trail. The trailhead starts from an altitude of 1420m with a well-worn trail through the trees. It is quite gradual at first. Once the trail starts climbing, it becomes more braided and can be muddy early in the season or after a rain.
