About Scott

Scott's running career began in high school at Dana Hills in Southern California. He fell in love with cross country and eventually ran well enough to get college offers. He continued on to the University of California, Santa Barbara where he was a multiple time conference champ. He broke school records in the 5k and 10k (5k has since been broken!). After college he pursued professional running in Flagstaff Arizona for McMillan Elite and then Northern Arizona Elite.

My Coaching Philosophy

I believe consistency is the best route to success. The combination of effort and patience can eventually yield big results.

In terms of X's and O's it's not anything revolutionary. Work hard, take care of yourself and you will improve. I can help you on that journey by prescribing appropriate training based on current fitness and goals. There is no magic bullet. But that makes the good results so much more rewarding.

Interview

  • Favourite race type and why?

I reluctantly fell in love with the marathon. The ease of which you run in the early stages is truly fun. The mystery of the middle stage is intriguing. And I grew to relish the final stages of a marathon and how far I could push myself into the hurt locker.

  • Favourite post-workout treat or go-to place?

    Nearest dive bar.

  • Favourite quote?

“Always be kind, have a good attitude, never give up”

  • Favourite single race?

The 2016 Olympic Marathon Trials. I was a LONG shot to make the team but I truly believed I had done the work to put myself in contention for a spot. While I ultimately fell well short of being an olympian I put myself out there for a long time and it turned out to be a pivotal point in my career and confidence moving forward.

  • Favourite sporting moment? (that you experienced)

In frosh soph volleyball in high school I was all of 5’3″ and in the semi finals I blocked the best team in the tourneys outside hitter for game point to go to the championship. Which we unfortunately lost.

  • Favourite sporting moment? (any sport, athlete/team)

Watching Meb win the 2014 Boston Marathon. Get chills thinking about it.

  • How long have you been a runner?

Since freshman year of high school. Although maybe technically since I could walk, because my parents put my on a leash shortly after because apparently I would just take off.

  • What got you into running?

High school cross country. I absolutely loved the teams I was on. I am still friends with lots of members of those squads.
